Layout Design?

I'm launching a preview/sample of our magazine, and have set a deadline for the production, article submissions, comp ads, etc., but the art director that I'm working with has been a little absent ??? which has caused me some real concern. 

Circulation begins early next year - this is a very niche magazine, and the industry is expecting a preview (I've been actively promoting) and we set the deadline for November 1! I'm in a panic because I would like to have a contingency, but don't know any good people to bring on board - cost is also a factor.

Sure would appreciate any leads, suggestions, or referrals.

I'm looking for an independent magazine layout person.
