Can you recommend the cheapest printers for printing an A4 sized UK-based magazine?
I have been told that some overseas printers (eg; in China) can print extremely cheaply but will just take slightly longer to ship the order.
What can you all recommend? Any tips, hints or help is gratefully received.
Feel free to ask any relevant questions that will help answer my question. Thanks!

I use a digital printer called Dazzle Printing. They are very fast and affordable, but I don't know their rates for international shipping (I'm sure the website details it though). One concern to consider in China... I recommend you research the company to be sure they use fair and safe practices for employment (no child labor, no forced labor). It's an issue that may need to be addressed when out-sourcing work.

I've used Pensord (www.pensord.co.uk) who are based in Wales. I wouldn't say they are the cheapest but they are good. It does depend on the quantities you want to print, etc. Is the magazine for shop distribution? Have you thought about using a print on demand service, such as www.magcloud.com? They aren't cheap, but there is no outlay as the buyer pays the print cost and you add as much or as little markup as you want.

Hi guys
I've decided not to go for Print on Demand although I know a magazine based in the States that uses this as a secondary option for readers/customers.
I want to aim for shop distribution as well as selling online.
It will have to be a limited print run for the first few issues due to very limited finances (probably only 1000 copies).
I've been checking for quotes online but am lacking some of the "technical speak" when being asked about paper quality etc etc.
Up to now I've always been involved in writing and promoting, networking etc but now I have a whole lot more practical things to learn!
Any advice is honestly very gratefully received!

Pagination (how many pages)?
Most printers of this kind of job will not print anything less than 1,000 and you only start to get true savings on figures in excess of that.
If you're mailing out I'd recommend something like 80-90 gsm silk.... which gives a nice finish without being too expensive to mail out.
