Timeline For Articles?
I am starting on an online magazine and had a question regarding article turnaround.
What kind deadline should I give freelance writers? As well, what would be a realistic time for the editing process?
All the articles would be roughly 500 - 700 words in length. Would I be off to suggest 1 and 1/2 months (3 weeks to write/3 weeks to edit and prepare)? I come more from the accounting side so I have less knowledge when it comes to editing.

Is his a bimontly mag? or? Once the articles are written someone will need to edit all of them and make them all consistent. Then off it goes to the designer. The designer prepares it etc. Then it needs to be proofed again because designers make mistakes like everyone else. Errors such as extra spacing ...a word may have not been italics etc. All writers write differently so it has to be edited you will need to form a style sheet with guidelines as far as how the text should be.
For example perhaps all the credits are in italics etc.

Well, while the magazine is online I would like to have new material up at least every week or two. I can receive the articles from the writers all at once (lets say the beginning of the month) and upload them weekly.
I'm just a little unsure of how much time the process will take. I wouldn't want to tell a writer/editor 3 weeks if its too little/much. If someone could give a quick rundown of the writing/editing process, that would be great.

We give our writer a month, do the first edit within a week, then we hand of the article to an illustrator (who also has a month) and make any further editing if needed. Then we have a month for production time of the article with both words and pictures. (about 3 weeks for editong, and one week for proofing.)
