WE ARE STARTING A MAGAZINE - ARE YOU SAM?

Greetings to everyone!

I am about to start a magazine on my own. And as I am doing most of the work myself, I would like to know if Photoshop can do all the work for me including the layout, graphics and the other general arrangements? Please let me know any relevant details I must know.

Please also confirm that is CMYK and a resolution of 300 dpi enough for good quality printing?
Thanks!

Have a nice Day!

Yes and no. Yes it coooould if you had the time and patience, but its not a page layout program so you're going to have lots of difficulty with things like laying out more than one page at at time, linking text boxes, creating smaller files, and so on. Buy Quark or InDesign, you'll be much better off.

Thanks amisuzuki! That was an honest reply. But what would you prefer if we compare Indesign & Quark? As in with ease of use and quality?

Just a matter of preference... people in the industry for a long time are used to Quark because that was the main program, now InDesign is taking over because of its integration with other Adobe products and Quark's lack of integration with anything. So to be current, you'd be better learning InDesign.

I think there's been quite a bit of discussion on this elsewhere in this forum already so if you have a dig around you should soon find some answers.

Indesign is the way to go. I use indesign, photoshop, and illustrator.
Indesign - layout
Photoshop - image manipulation
illustrator for vector graphics

illustrator is not necessary but I tend to use it alot.

I hope that helps!

Like you, we were starting from scratch a little over a year ago. We bought the entire Adobe Creative Suite because it was actually cheaper than buying the pieces ala carte. It includes In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Go Live. We love it, and have since talked to many people who switched from Quark to In Design who would never go back.
