Right now in our current business environment, working with a newspaper to launch your own magazine isn't going to happen. Newspapers are reducing their staffs constantly and because of that they've had to find other markets to make money. Most of them have launched their own magazines now because they already have photographers, writers, prepress, and even printers to do the entire thing. So now, like you said, this company has their own custom publishing business because they're trying to find money where ever they can. Don't count on a newspaper for help - they are our competition now. I would suggest you walk away now and find another way to go about your launch.
