I'm interested in feedback from my fellow publishers regarding issue #8 of Style Sample magazine. This issue features film noir-inspired fashion photography, shopping for a tropical vacation (or just hot and humid weather), colorfully subversive illustrations, packing for a stylish vacation in Madrid, and advice for hosting giveaways, in addition to independent designers, favorite (and future favorite) bloggers, an… Continue

Glad to see more attention placed on Magazine Apps and helping provide resources for publisher to promote their magazine apps. I think we need to do more for magazine app promotion than we see even from the MPA. http://advontemedia.com/blog/magazine-apps-directory/

6thAveConcepts Print is not dead!!!

Found an interesting blog entry about print. People said movies would be the death of theater, TV would be the death of radio and color film would replace black and white. They were wrong. The same holds true for print vs. web. The blog I read concluded that "print is dying as a standalone against the web, but used as an addition it can be a powerful tool."

People still like to pick up books and magazines and flip through them. Images still speak to us. We still have this innate need to… Continue

6thAveConcepts Sometimes you do get what you pay for...

One of the banes of Graphic Designers are the cookie cutter and low-budget services that you can find online. Since we're all looking for affordability and making our dollar stretch, services like this are quite alluring. However, I found a blog at http://tinyurl.com/dlbasp that really illustrates how you get what you pay for. This blog reviewed the website 50 dollar logo.com (no spaces). The 50 dollar logo site guarantees amazing logos with UNLIMITED revi… Continue

6thAveConcepts Invitation Designs

Just returned home from the printers with my latest project. Wedding invitations and matching RSVP cards. The client requested a simple invitation. Normally I design invitations featuring the bride and groom's picture but this time just the text and 2 pink calla lilies will be on the card. The matching RSVP card is a direct-mail response card. Guests can simply drop the card in the mail with no need for an envelope. Invitation 8.5x5.5 inches

6thAveConcepts Changing Logos with the Times

I went to a mall last weekend and looked at all the old signage they had on display. Past by old Pepsi signs and enjoyed seeing the old logo. Pepsi's changed their logo a number of times since they began. Then I passed some old Coca-Cola signs and I noticed something. Coke really HASN'T changed their logo much over their life. Pepsi, being newer, has changed and changed yet Coke remains the same. Why is that? Why is it some companies feel the need to update and change their logo with the times… Continue

Elizabeth Cristofolini Book Update

I have officially sold 10 copies of my book (pre order sales). The hard back version to hit stands in July. The book publisher wants to talk about who I will be using for the magazine. David Blankenship Open Source vs. Commercial Website CMS Software

Folio Magazine recently published an article about CMS software. Now more than ever, publishers are finding that good content reigns supreme. Therefore, it only makes sense that the content management systems in charge of safekeeping and conveying these assets are of critical importance. But with a swirl of commercial staples and innovative open source systems (like Drupal, Joomla!, Alfresco and eZPublish) growing in popularity, how does a publisher looking to overhaul choose the best system?… Continue
